"You're A PORN Writer!"

Lately, I've had an unpleasant argument with an M/M fangirl who have NEVER read my stories. Basically, she said if a porn scene is filled with lots of non-sexual plots, it's still a PORN-WITH-LOTS-OF-PLOTS. She insisted I couldn't distinguish erotica from porn.

So, I wrote to Smashwords:
Let's say I write about a couple who struggle for their love. Lots of emotion, in fact in the end, one of them die. It's a touching story... But in the middle, there's an explicit love scene (pages long, complete with ejaculation)... Does it mean I still write PORN? And not romance-erotica???

And here is the reply....
Thank you for your question, though you would probably get perfectly fine answers from my co-workers, I'm actually writing in the Paranormal and Science Fiction Romance and Erotica genres.  There are shades of gray to all this and some people think that sex automatically makes for a porn categorization.  From how you describe your book, I would say it is an Erotic Romance.

If you develop characters that face the "requirements" of sexual relationships and grow through the relationships and challenges of their story, that would be an Erotic Romance, no matter how explicit the sex scene(s) is/(are).  It's a matter of ratio, what percentage of the text is used for sex scenes.  Porn writing is generally 90% or so sex, those writings are geared towards creating "desire" in their readers and are sometimes referred to as "one-handed reading."

Timeless: Titanic Chapter - Part 1

Timeless is a serialized novel about love and reincarnation which spans across ages, starting from ancient Egypt to the far future when the universe meets its demise. Timeless saga started in ancient Egypt, when the High Priest of Min named Sabef fell in love with Prince Kawab. Yet, the prince was more interested in General Hunefer. Not thinking like a normal person, the obsessive priest then cursed Kawab and Hunefer to reincarnate endlessly.

In 1912, a rich man's son named Ian Coulter ran away from his father after his sex affair with the butler was discovered. With Titanic's ticket in his hand, Ian looked forward to start a new life in America. Aboard the lavish ocean liner, Ian bumped into Chief Officer Edmund Fox. Ian thought he had fallen Edmund. Yet, he was later caught in romantic dilemma after meeting a stoker named Frank Millson. Things turned supernaturally complicated when Ian discovered that he was the reincarnation of Prince Kawab whose destiny was forever bound to Hunefer and Sabef. But time was running out as the Titanic hit an iceberg during her maiden voyage. Once again, Sabef's curse had been proven. But who would survive the sinking?

Timeless is available in two editions: Romance Edition and Uncensored Edition for those who crave steamy details. Order your copy today!

The Ordeal of Porn Ebooks

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjzUmRIW4IBrzW7UpdYzvRCvHN0ouCbwHktRYol2nYgDo5r7xsMjeZ4hRfsnTJwcBJCdHjWytcbdQ6ka4HvDbWqxXh0CKvftRx6DqCpDszFhVYxdgHdf2JkBnkGSolabgDnJ-slzx1EszA/s1600/KHEYF.jpg

Lately, several online stores which sell ebooks have been on a mission: to purge porn ebooks from their stores! Self-published authors are to blame, from what I gather. The news however is ambiguous. While they stress on forbidden themes such as incest, rape, and bestiality, they keep calling it with a general term: PORN.

WHSmith closed its store just to purge porn ebooks from its shelves. Meanwhile, Amazon stated that sex stories violate its policy: "We don't accept pornography or offensive depictions of graphic sexual acts." From such statement, I conclude that Amazon doesn't want any porn, even the consensual ones. Does it mean the end of commercial self-published erotica?

To counteract porn, UK is preparing Obscene Publications Act (OPA). If OPA is legalized, publishers will get punished if they fail to protect consumers from the "danger" of porn ebooks! Many anti-porn people support OPA. However, PJ Vogt from OnTheMedia.org protested that erotic fiction concerns fake characters who don't exist in real life.

SAVE THE CHILDREN ???
*************************
One silly concern surfaces: CHILDREN! The news mentioned that many parents were worried their children might be exposed to porn ebooks from online stores. My question is, which silly parents who let their underage children run amok in Amazon, WHSmith, and other similar online stores, with a credit card???

The internet is NOT for children! Smart parents should have been aware of that. It's the parents' responsibility to look after their children, not by throwing blame! Heterosexual parents can't expect to have the joy of sex and produce baby, then force strangers to look after their child!

TEENAGERS VS PORN
***************************
Ok, I want to know which person who has never been a teenager? Like it or not, teenagers (esp male) want porn! It's heavily influenced by biological clock. Puberty sets in, then they get lustful even though they're below 18. Keeping porn away from them is FUTILE! Even if internet had been closed down, they could still get porn!

Falling In Love With Alistair

Alistair

I recently started playing Dragon Age: Origins, and immediately fell in love with one of the characters: Alistair. He's goofy, sarcastic, sexually naive, and... Oohh... He's straight! Luckily, with the right fan-made modification, Alistair can be "gay" (by tricking the game that you're female).

The world of Dragon Age is similar to Lord of The Rings. There are wizards, elves, demonic creatures, knights, kings, and war. Set in Ferelden, a fantasy world, the people in the game has their own god called Maker. At the start of the game, Ferelden is about to get obliterated by the Blight (demonic plague/war). The player can position himself/herself as a human noble, an elf, or a dwarf. Player will get the role as a Grey Warden (something like peace-keeping warriors) and travel the land to unite the races. As the player travels and meets many people in needs, he/she will be accompanied by several characters. One of them is Alistair.

Alistair's biography is interesting. He's a bastard - his mom was a servant and his dad was a king. Since childhood, Alistair was raised by a noble called Arl Eamon before later he's sent away to a monastery. Long story short, Alistair was supposed to be a Templar but ended up being a Grey Warden.

Dragon Age allows romance for players: both straight love and gay love. Players can kiss a character and even make love him/her. Unfortunately, by default, the only gay male love interest is an UGLY ELF assassin called Zevran. Alistair, by default, is set to be a heterosexual man who's interested in female player.

It's very easy to get in love with Alistair. First, he's handsome. Second, he's goofy. In the game, Alistair doesn't get along well with the other companion: a witch called Morrigan. They love irritating each other. Some of their dialogue are amusing. Alistair himself is naive and sometimes talks in a funny way.

Some of Alistair's funny sentences:
* "Have you ever licked a lamp post in winter?"
* "They say you can get anything here. I once got pick-pocketed."
* "Why do they call it a 'brothel?' There's no broth. Or is there?"
* "*Sniffs* What is that smell? Fish? And something else. Oh... more fish."
* "What is that smell? Dwarven vomit? Charming."
